What we can help you with

  • We can help with AICIS registration and general advice relating to the importation and manufacture (introduction) of industrial chemicals in Australia.  
  • We publish risk assessment information about industrial chemicals and maintain searchable databases such as the industrial chemicals inventory - please use our search hub.
  • For more information, see 'who we are and what we do' and check our frequently asked questions.

What we can't help you with

  • We cannot provide a list of chemicals that can or can't be used in cosmetics or consumer products.
  • We cannot categorise your chemical introductions or confirm introduction categories.
  • Product safety – we do not handle reports of adverse effects or reactions to industrial chemicals. You can report unsafe consumer products to Product Safety Australia.
  • Detailed advice about how regulatory obligations apply to your specific circumstance.
  • Product labelling – please see business.gov.au and ACCC cosmetic product labelling.

Christmas and New Year shutdown period 2025–26 notice

We are closed from 3pm on Wednesday 24 December 2025 until Thursday 1 January 2026. We will not respond to any enquiries during this shutdown period. 

Our team will answer any enquiries when our office re-opens from Friday 2 January 2026.

We can only give general advice about how to search for a chemical on the Inventory and any related terms and conditions. We cannot provide detailed advice about how regulatory obligations apply to your specific circumstances. 

We can give general information about assessment certificate applications and the assessment or evaluation process. 

We can only give general advice about the requirements for importers and manufacturers of industrial chemicals in Australia. We cannot categorise your chemical introductions, nor confirm introduction categories.
