Exempted introduction declarations

This is also referred to as a 'post-introduction declaration (PID)' and is submitted through AICIS Business Services. But it doesn't apply to everyone.

If you worked out that your introduction is in the 'exempted' category, then you must submit a post-introduction declaration (PID) form, but only if it is one of these types of chemicals and only on the first time that you introduce it into Australia:

  • polymers of low concern
  • low-concern biopolymers
  • chemicals that you have categorised as very low risk for human health and the environment

This means that if you submitted a PID for a chemical in one year and continue to introduce that same chemical next year, you do not need to resubmit the PID form. Remember that a PID is separate (in addition) to your annual declaration.

An 'exempted' introduction is not an exemption for chemicals that are not on the Inventory. You can only introduce a chemical under the exempted category if you meet strict criteria. To see if your introduction meets the exempted introduction criteria, you must use our Guide to categorising your chemical importation or manufacture.
