Update to AICIS categorisation guidelines and guidance – 24 September 2024

We have revised our online categorisation guide to reflect the latest version of the Industrial Chemicals Categorisation Guidelines (version 3) that came into effect today.

What are the revisions?

The changes only affect steps 4.4 and 5.4 of the guide to categorising your chemical importation and manufacture. We previously announced the changes in March 2024 and August 2024.

Updated list of chemicals with high hazards for categorisation

  • More entries on the list of chemicals.
  • Greater consistency with the national and international regulatory status of known highly hazardous chemicals.

Demonstrating the absence of specific target organ toxicity after repeated exposure

Refined requirements for introducers to prove the absence of this hazard characteristic – see ‘Human health hazard band B hazard characteristics’.

Demonstrating the absence of bioaccumulation potential
