Use in coatings

Examples of activities that meet the CEA criteria:

• trialling and optimising formulation processes
• trialling and optimising application conditions, techniques and surfaces
• weather testing
• test marketing, including selling formulated coatings to a limited number of potential (industrial) customers

Examples of activities that don’t meet the CEA criteria:

• selling your chemical or formulated coatings (for example, for DIY use) – or making them available to the general public – during the period of the CEA
• uncontrolled use in the workplace (for example, spraying coatings without using appropriate engineering controls or personal protective equipment)
• use in a coating for children’s toys

Use in inks

Examples of activities that meet the CEA criteria:

• trialling and optimising formulation processes
• trialling and optimising application conditions, techniques and surfaces
• test marketing, including selling formulated inks to a limited number of potential (industrial) customers

Examples of activities that don’t meet the CEA criteria:

• selling your chemical, formulated inks or articles designed to release the ink – or making them available to the general public – during the period of the CEA
• uncontrolled use in the workplace (for example, large-format printing without using appropriate engineering controls or personal protective equipment)
• using the ink to print an article that has food contact

Use as an additive in fuels

Examples of activities that meet the CEA criteria:

• trialling and optimising formulation processes
• efficiency and quality testing
• test marketing, including selling formulated fuels to a limited number of potential (industrial) customers

Examples of activities that don’t meet the CEA criteria:

• selling your chemical, the formulated fuels (for example, for cars, retail sale) or vehicles containing the fuels (for example, buses, boats) – or making them available to the general public – during the period of the CEA

Use in mining

Examples of activities that meet the CEA criteria:

• trialling and optimising formulation processes
• efficiency and quality testing, including where your chemical will become irreversibly bound within an inert matrix during use (for example, in hardened cement)

Examples of activities that don’t meet the CEA criteria:

• releasing your chemical to the environment without prior treatment (for example, using your chemical in drilling muds for onshore or offshore drilling operations without collecting and safely disposing of your chemical)
